While PACs, Super Pacs, and Lobbyists often have a negative perception in the world, the reality at the beginning is totally different. The idea was for people to be able to organize to provide effort for their needs while they, themselves, are too busy with the everyday issues of making a living to spend that time themselves. For example, farmers need to farm. If they need action to prevent erosion during the Dust Bowl, getting assistance to prevent blight, or allowances for them to cooperate to market more efficiently, having organizations or people representing their interests helps.

Of course, anything made for good can also be used for evil. But no one is truly evil in all this. They're just usually people who are opposed to your point of view or interests. Government can't do everything, so choices have to be made. Having representation and a level of power to sway voters gets elected officials to listen and to potentially champion your cause.

WHAT ARE LOBBYISTS, PACs, AND SUPER PACs?

LOBBYISTS

Lobbyists are individuals or organizations paid to advocate directly to legislators on the behalf of clients. This can be at various levels of government and is strictly regulated to prevent problems.

PACs / POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES

PACs are organized to allow people to pool limited resources from individuals that may be donated directly to political candidates. Theoretically, to support candidates that already support their cause to help them get elected.

SUPER PACs

Super PACs can raise unlimited amounts of money from a variety of sources but are prevented, by law at least, from coordinating with political campaigns or from donating funds directly to candidates. They can instead run advertisements of their own about issues rather than candidates, usually. This is part of the concept of dark money.
